I read 1984 at least once a year so I can keep track of where we are in the plan laid out.
My kids didn't have to read 1984 when they were in school.
So dad bought them a copy and made it clear they were to read it.
Every child in America needs to read this book before they are sophomores in high school.
Just my humble opinion.

@TXPatriot2021 I'd say more important still would be Brave New World and Ira Levin's This Perfect Day. Which is like his only book that hasn't been made into a movie. Weird.

1984 is the primer for the others in my opinion.
