@gnosticmonk as a sort-of tech person who knows squat about networking, I’m concerned where the ActivityPub Achilles’ heels may lie.

Also, there’s the brute force of blocking IPs to consider. How to circumvent?

And when the hammer really comes down & the Internet as we know it is gone, how do we easily transition to a secure SneakerNet system?

@gnosticmonk I know there are ActivityPub alternatives, & I’d be curious to see how they compare on resiliency (on paper, anyway)

There are weaknesses at every layer of the technology stack. "The Internet" is only useful if you have access to it. Controlling that access (ex: KYC requirements) is becoming a real threath.

There are some mesh technologies out there. I like the work done by helium.com but that's only good for IOT.

The high-bandwidth technologies we are currently addicted to come at the price of submission to telcos and media companies. That is becoming less and less attractive to me. So I look for local alternatives. Local use of "yellow pages" style technologies. Local community currencies. etc.
