If the US doesn't have any strategic interest in the strait then they can leave, declare victory, and let the rest of the world negotiate how to get ships through it. If Iran is open to letting Chinese ships pass, they'll be open to letting neutral European ships pass as well.

But the US can't leave... because if they could, they would.
